JAAA Day 3 REPORT

World 100m Champion Veronica Campbell

The third day of the 11th IAAF World Championships proved a very exciting day for Jamaicans as Veronica Campbell once again proved herself a champion bringing home the Gold in the women's 100m in a close photo finish with American Lauren Williams. Fans were left waiting for several minutes for the Official results that eventually gave Veronica the right to grab the Jamaican flag and take her victory lap. Veronica said she knew she had had a great finish but she wasn't really sure if she had really done it. This victory put the Jamaican fans over the moon as they were already celebrating Novelene Williams' leading time in qualifying for the Women's 400m final.

100m Hurdles Women

Vonette Dixon, Delloreen Ennis-London and Lacena Golding all qualified for the semi-final round of the women's 100m hurdles.

Long Jump Women

Elva Goulbourne was not successful in qualifying for the final of the women's long jump. Her one successful jump of 6.32m was only good enough to place her 14th in her qualifying group.

400m Hurdles Women

Melaine Walker, Nickiesha Wilson and Kaliese Spencer were successful in qualifying for the semi-final round of the women's 400m hurdles.

3000m Steeplechase

Mardrea Hyman finished in 14th place clocking 10:16.24 in the 3000m steeplechase which was won by Yekaterina Volkova in a championship record time of 9:06.57

400m Women

Novelene Williams won her heat in a season's best time of 49.66 to qualify for the finals of the women's 400m.

100m Women

Sheri-Ann Brooks was not successful in qualifying for the finals of the women's 100m where Jamaica was represented by Veronica Campbell and Kerron Stewart. In a close finish Veronica was able to secure the Gold medal while Kerron Stewart finished in 7th place.

400m Hurdles Women – Melaine Walker, Kaliese Spencer and Nickiesha Wison

400m Hurdles Men – Danny McFarlane
